In honor of Manufacturing Day (Oct. 2), we’ve opened our doors to anyone who wants to visit.
Not in person, of course, but digitally. We’ve never held public tours, but we’ve found a way to provide the next best thing – a virtual tour.
In August, we posted a series of digital tours that give viewers a 360-degree view of key operations of the plant. They cover the Customer Experience Center, Customer Support Center, Axle Pinion Machining, Block Machining, Assembly Line, Quality Gate, Hot Test, Loading Dock and Vehicle Pilot Center.
The tours are controlled by the viewer and contain multiple clickable items that provide information about what happens in each location. Even long-time employees will learn something new about operations. While nothing can duplicate actually visiting our 3 million-square-foot plant, the 360-degree tours allow all Detroit fans a digital window into where we produce the engines, axles and transmissions they love.
Guests who physically visit the plant will get to spend some time in the new Customer Experience Center, which opened on Sept. 13. Located inside the main entrance to the factory, the exhibit informs visitors of Detroit’s rich history as well as its current-day operations. The display features important legacy products as well as the current line of Detroit products built at the plant. There is also information about Detroit offerings such as Virtual Technician and Detroit Assurance, interactive product displays and a retail kiosk at which visitors can purchase Detroit merchandise and apparel.
Those who see the plant, whether through the 360 tours or in person, cannot help but be impressed by our investment in this industry and our commitment to building the finest possible products.
Manufacturing is on the rebound in this country. Offshore work is returning to the U.S. and companies like Detroit Diesel, which never left, are stronger and more efficient than ever before.
The more than 2,000 employees who work here deserve to be recognized, not only on Manufacturing Day, but every day. Thank you for your hard work and dedication.
